Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has expressed his dissatisfaction with the impact of Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew’s absence on the team’s attacking prowess during their recent match against Arsenal.

The Eagles endured a 5-0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium in the English Premier League on Saturday, with Ayew unavailable due to his commitment to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with the Black Stars in Cote d’Ivoire.

Hodgson highlighted the absence of Ayew, along with other factors such as injuries, as contributing to the team’s challenges.

He emphasized the need for the fans’ support and acknowledged that the attacking threat was compromised without key players like Ayew and Michael Olise.

The Crystal Palace manager stated, “We can make our excuses, which we’ve been doing because certain things have worked against us during this period of time, but the bottom line is that if we’re going to go forward and do well, we need the fans with us.

Furthermore, our attacking threat, when you lose [Michael] Olise and [Jordan] Ayew at the same time, is obviously blunted.

That will change when those two players come back.”

Jordan Ayew, who has been a consistent performer for Crystal Palace, is expected to rejoin the Premier League side after the Africa Cup of Nations.

His absence was notably felt in the recent match against Arsenal, and Hodgson is optimistic that the attacking dynamic will improve when Ayew and other key players return to the squad.

Ayew has contributed two goals and five assists in 19 league games for Crystal Palace this season.
