Ryan McAidoo shines as Manchester City beat United to lift FA Youth Cup

English-born Ghanaian youngster Ryan McAidoo played a key role as Manchester City defeated rivals Manchester United 2-1 to win the FA Youth Cup.
A dramatic late goal from Reigan Heskey sealed victory for City at the Joie Stadium, handing the club its fifth FA Youth Cup title in front of an excited home crowd.
City took the lead five minutes before half-time when Floyd Samba curled in a stunning 25-yard free-kick to put the hosts ahead.
Manchester United responded before the break through defender Godwill Kukonki, whose powerful header brought the visitors level at 1-1 and set up a tense second half.
But with the match seemingly heading for extra time, Heskey struck late to secure the trophy for City in a fiercely contested derby final.
McAidoo was one of City’s standout performers throughout the competition and once again impressed on the big stage. The talented forward had already scored important goals against Fulham, Chelsea and Blackburn Rovers during City’s run to the final.
The youngster celebrated the triumph with his Ghanaian father, who was in attendance to witness the memorable occasion.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was present at the stadium alongside Ghana international forward Antoine Semenyo, adding further significance to the occasion for the club’s emerging talents.
Although born in England, McAidoo remains eligible to represent Ghana at senior international level, a prospect that will excite many Ghanaian football fans as the teenager continues his rapid rise.
