The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that the Black Stars will not play any further friendly matches before their opening game at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Plans for an additional warm-up fixture had been explored following Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Wales in Cardiff, with Jamaica and Honduras among the teams considered as potential opponents. However, negotiations failed to produce a match after Honduras withdrew from discussions.

GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum said there are currently no arrangements in place for another preparatory game and that the chances of one being organised before the tournament are slim.

“At this point, it is a big no. We don’t have any game on paper at this point. It doesn’t look likely, but I am not in the position to rule out anything yet,” he said.

According to Asante Twum, any change in plans would depend on the assessment of head coach Carlos Queiroz and his technical staff in the final days leading up to the tournament.

“If the coach wants a game, we arrange. If he doesn’t need a game, we move,” he explained.

The GFA official insisted that both the federation and the coaching staff remain aligned in their preparations for the World Cup despite the collapse of plans for a second friendly.

Ghana will now shift their full focus to their Group L opener against Panama on 17 June, with England and Croatia also awaiting the Black Stars in a difficult group.

The four-time African champions will be hoping their current preparations are enough as they target a place in the knockout stages for the first time since 2010.
