The administrative manager of Hohoe United, Yussif Alhassan Uthman, has defended the club’s decision to withdraw from the Ghana Premier League, insisting it was the only viable option after a series of frustrations.

‎The club announced its withdrawal following an emergency board meeting, citing what it described as unfair treatment and structural challenges affecting their participation.

‎Speaking to Sporty FM, Uthman pointed to venue restrictions as a major concern, revealing that the team had been denied the opportunity to host matches in the Volta Region despite the availability of suitable facilities.

‎“Despite the availability of Premier League venues within our region, we were still told there’s no way we would play in the Volta Region,” he said. “So we had to choose between Accra or Tema.”

‎He also highlighted what he described as poor officiating in their recent fixture against Dreams FC, suggesting it played a decisive role in the club’s stance.

‎“In the game we played in Tema, we witnessed one of the worst officiating performances any team could have. We felt it was calculated,” Uthman said.

‎“At this point, withdrawing remained the only option.”

‎At the time of their exit, Hohoe United were fighting to avoid relegation, with 30 points from 27 matches. The club was also facing a demanding schedule that would have seen them play six of their final seven matches away from home, despite being designated as hosts.

‎Uthman’s remarks underline the depth of frustration within the club, as questions grow over conditions in the league and the role of the Ghana Football Association in addressing such concerns.
