Chelsea have officially appointed former midfield star Xabi Alonso as the club’s new manager on a four-year contract, marking a major new chapter for the Premier League side.

The 43-year-old arrives at Stamford Bridge with a growing reputation as one of Europe’s brightest young coaches, following impressive managerial success in recent seasons.

In his first statement after the announcement, Alonso spoke of his pride at taking charge of one of football’s most historic clubs.

“Chelsea is one of the biggest clubs in world football and it fills me with immense pride to become manager of this great club,” he said.

The Spaniard also revealed that discussions with the club’s ownership and sporting leadership convinced him that their ambitions were closely aligned.

“From my conversations with the ownership group and sporting leadership, it is clear we share the same ambition,” Alonso added. “We want to build a team capable of competing consistently at the highest level and fighting for trophies.”

Chelsea have endured a turbulent period in recent years despite heavy investment in the squad, with supporters demanding a return to domestic and European success. The appointment of Alonso signals the club’s intention to build a long-term project around a manager widely praised for his tactical intelligence and modern style of football.

As a player, Alonso enjoyed a glittering career with clubs including Liverpool F.C., Real Madrid CF and FC Bayern Munich, winning league titles and the UEFA Champions League during his time at the top level.

Chelsea fans will now hope he can translate that success to the dugout as the club looks to challenge again among England and Europe’s elite.
