2026 WAFCON: I know my team very well and I believe in them – Black Queens coach Kim Lars ahead of Cameroon clash
Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has expressed confidence in his side’s ability to overcome Cameroon despite acknowledging the magnitude of the challenge awaiting Ghana in their crucial Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Group D clash.
The Black Queens face the Indomitable Lionesses on Sunday at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca, with both teams aiming to build on winning starts to their campaigns.
Ghana began the tournament with a convincing victory, while Cameroon also claimed maximum points in their opening fixture, setting up one of the standout matches in Group D.
Speaking ahead of the encounter, Bjorkegren admitted Cameroon would provide one of Ghana’s toughest tests so far but insisted he trusts his players to deliver when it matters most.
“It is going to be a tough game against Cameroon, but I know my team very well, and I believe in them,” the Swedish coach told reporters.
“A difficult opponent usually means that we are a better Ghana team,” he added.
Bjorkegren’s comments reflect the growing confidence within the Black Queens camp as Ghana seeks a return to the knockout stages of the continental competition.
Victory over Cameroon would secure Ghana’s place in the WAFCON quarter-finals with a game to spare, strengthening their hopes of mounting a serious title challenge.
The Black Queens also have their sights set on reaching the semi-finals, a feat that would guarantee qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Kick-off at the Moulay Rachid Stadium is scheduled for 17:00 GMT.
