ECG announces five-hour power outage in Accra’s Airport area

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a temporary power outage affecting the Airport area of Accra and nearby communities on Sunday, 2 August 2026.

The interruption is scheduled to run from 09:00 to 14:00 while planned maintenance work is carried out. ECG said the exercise is intended to improve service delivery.

Customers in the Airport area and surrounding communities have been advised to expect a five-hour disruption to their electricity supply during the stated period. The company did not provide further details about the specific maintenance activities, but said the work forms part of efforts to improve its service.

ECG also announced a separate outage affecting parts of Accra East on Monday, 3 August 2026.

That interruption is expected to last for eight hours, from 09:00 to 17:00. According to ECG, the planned exercise is also aimed at improving service delivery.

The areas listed for the Monday outage include parts of East Legon, parts of Okponglo, Fafraha and Ashiyie, as well as surrounding communities.

The two announcements mean customers in the affected parts of Accra may experience temporary interruptions on consecutive days. The Airport area and its neighbouring communities are scheduled to be affected on Sunday, while customers in the named Accra East locations are due to experience the planned disruption on Monday.

ECG apologised to customers for any inconvenience caused by the maintenance exercises. It also set out the affected locations and timings in its notices so that customers could take account of the planned interruptions.

The Sunday outage will begin at 09:00 and end at 14:00, giving a total duration of five hours. The Monday exercise will start at the same time but is scheduled to continue until 17:00, making it an eight-hour interruption for customers in the affected Accra East communities.

ECG described both outages as temporary and linked them to planned work intended to improve service delivery. The company’s notice covers the Airport area of Accra and surrounding communities for Sunday, followed by parts of East Legon, parts of Okponglo, Fafraha, Ashiyie and nearby communities on Monday.

Customers affected by either notice have been informed in advance of the planned interruptions. ECG’s apology acknowledged the inconvenience that the work may cause while the company carries out the scheduled exercises.
