I expect tougher test from Cameroon – Black Queens coach Kim Lars ahead of WAFCON clash
Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren says Ghana must raise their performance when they face a more experienced Cameroon side in their second Group D match at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Ghana take on the Indomitable Lionesses at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca on Sunday, knowing that victory will secure a place in the quarter-finals.
The Black Queens opened their campaign with an impressive 2-0 win over Cape Verde, but Bjorkegren believes Cameroon will present a much sterner challenge.
“I expect Cameroon to be one level up than Cape Verde,” the Swedish coach told reporters on Saturday.
“We are going to play against a good Cameroon team with experienced players,” he added.
Cameroon, one of Africa’s traditional women’s football powerhouses, are expected to test Ghana’s resilience with their tournament experience and quality across the pitch.
Despite the challenge ahead, confidence remains high in the Black Queens camp after a convincing start to the tournament. A second successive victory would not only guarantee progression to the knockout stage but also strengthen Ghana’s ambitions of making a deep run at the competition.
The Black Queens are targeting a return to the latter stages of WAFCON, with a place in the semi-finals carrying added significance. Reaching the last four would also secure qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
