Volta Region Handball league set to kick off on November 9
At a meeting held on Wednesday, October 30, the Executive Committee of the Volta Regional Handball Association has set Saturday, November 9, 2019 to resume its 2nd season of the Regional league at the Ho Sports Stadium.
The Community and School Club’s League which was last played on April 6, involving South Tongu Talents and Mawuli SHS in the Women category, has been on recess due to the consistent School Sports activities.
There has been difficulty getting most especially the School Clubs to honor matches during these times, forcing the Executive to decide holding on the league till the School Sporting activities to the national level are over.
A week 10 fixture between Sonrise and Mawuli SHS men, will begin the matches on November 9 at 7:30am at the Handball Court at the Ho Sports Stadium. It continues with a women category matches between Mawuko and Sonrise at 9:30am and then Mawuli versus Unique Stars at 11:00am.
All Clubs are to note that matches will not be postponed again as the Executive is urging the cooperation of all to complete the first round and plan for the second round smoothly.
Secretary to the Association, Alfred Agrah believes with more Community Clubs, the inconsistency in the league will become a thing of the past.
“Actually our challenge has been the less number of community Clubs. Starting with the schools was a great idea but gradually community clubs like Stars of Asha, South Tongu Talents and recently Unique Stars have brought light to our league. Once we get more of the Community Clubs, the running of the league will be smooth and more attractive. We are therefore encouraging those talents in the communities to set themselves up, come affiliate with us and let’s develop the game.” He told reporters.
The League which is the second regional League after the Greater Accra Handball League begun in 2017 and has organized 2 separate Gala to usher in the league.
Meanwhile Stars of Asha and Teresco, winners for the first season in the male and female categories are to return the trophies.
