A former deputy Minister of Interior, James Agalga has charged the government to fully implement the recommendations of the Ejura Committee report which probed the disturbances that occured in the area, following the murder of Kaaka.

The three-member committee was set up by the government to investigate the violence at Ejura in the Ashanti Region that led to the death of two persons and caused injuries to many others.

Although the committee submitted its report to the Interior Minister on July 27, 2021, the government published it on  Monday, September 27, 2021, through the Information Ministry— two months after its submission.

Government’s delay in publishing the report earlier led to agitations from  the affected families as well as a section of the public.

Among the Committee’s recommendations is that, adequate compensation should be given to the families of the two deceased persons, Abdul Nasir Yusuf and Murtala Suraj Mohammed.

It further recommended that the injured persons, Louis Ayikpa, Awal Misbau, and Nasif Nuhu.

It also recommended the removal of the MCE and the Police Commander for Ejura.

Speaking on the issue, Mr. James Agalga urged the government to swiftly implement the recommendations by the committee, and not repeat its handling of the Ayawaso West Wuogon commission of inquiry report.

Mr Agalga who spoke to Accra-based Citi Fm noted that the Minority will accept nothing other than the full implementation of the recommendations made.

“It is my expectation that the government will implement fully the recommendations of the committee. The government must implement this promptly. We know of the Ayawaso West Wuogon inquiry and the government’s attitude towards the recommendations that were made. Even those recommendations that were accepted in the government’s whitepaper were never implemented. So this time around, we expected nothing but the prompt implementation of the committee’s report.”
