Address impact of seaweed on oil-enclave dwellers – Freddie Blay tells oil companies

Oil companies and other stakeholders in the oil industry have been charged to take all the necessary actions to ensure they alleviate the sufferings of fishermen who live in the oil enave as a result of seaweed invasion.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Freddie Blay who have the instruction said the situation used not to be threatening, buy what is going on is “alarming”.
He noted that the situation is “hampering fishing in this area. It’s impacting very negatively on the living conditions of people living in these communities.”
Mr Blay who doubles as the Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party gave the call in an interview with Accra-based Citi News at Ekwe in the Ellembelle, on the sidelines of his tour of impacted coastal communities of Axim and Asanta in Nzema East and Ellembelle.

“We are alarmed at it and whatever can be done to alleviate the suffering of the people as a result of the seaweed that has invaded the areas must be done. I will say that it’s not only the GNPC that can help, all other companies within the oil industry should support,” he added.
