John Paintsil reveals how Ghana can win AFCON 2023 trophy
Former Ghanaian defender John Paintsil has underscored the crucial factors of thorough preparations, well-structured arrangements, and a strong determination for victory as essential elements if the Black Stars are to secure a triumph in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) next year.
The Black Stars secured their qualification for the AFCON tournament hosted by Ivory Coast with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over the Central African Republic on Thursday.
Paintsil acknowledged the ever-changing nature of football and how many countries have shown improvement in their performance over the years.
Nevertheless, he expressed confidence in Ghana’s potential to end their 41-year AFCON trophy drought, provided that the team’s preparation and the players’ mindset are aligned.
“Football is a dynamic sport, and many countries have made significant strides. Ultimately, success boils down to our level of preparation, organizational arrangements, and the sheer determination to succeed. We have a talented squad of players who are plying their trade with top European clubs. The players are motivated, and given time, they will bring home trophies for our nation,” Paintsil stated, as quoted by Ghana Soccernet.
While acknowledging the formidable challenge of winning the AFCON, Paintsil remained optimistic about Ghana’s prospects.
He emphasized the necessity of instilling a winning mentality in the players and adopting a methodical, step-by-step approach.
“Ghana can indeed win the AFCON, but it’s important to remember that other teams are also striving for success. It’s a tough challenge, but if we execute our plans effectively and nurture a winning mindset among the players, we can achieve it. The players must wholeheartedly embrace the mentality of champions, as without it, winning is elusive. Let’s take it one step at a time, and I firmly believe that we are on the cusp of claiming victory,” he added.
