Energy ministry denies claims of nationwide blackout on July 13

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has refuted media reports suggesting Ghana will experience a nationwide power outage on Sunday, July 13, describing such claims as false and misleading.
The clarification follows an earlier announcement by the Minister, John Abdulai Jinapor, who noted that temporary power supply disruptions may occur on that day due to a scheduled maintenance shutdown by ENI to boost gas production.
However, speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Wednesday, July 9, the Ministry’s spokesperson, Richmond Rockson, dismissed reports of an impending national blackout or return to widespread dumsor.
“I have seen some misreporting from some media houses that there will be a nationwide blackout. That is not what the Minister said. That is inaccurate; that is falsehood,” Rockson stated.
The Ministry urged the public and media to verify information and avoid unnecessary panic, assuring that the energy sector remains stable and under close monitoring.
