New Patriotic Party (NPP) member Francis Addai-Nimoh has withdrawn from the party’s upcoming presidential primary, citing what he describes as “unhealthy monetisation,” internal bias, and poor timing.

In a press release issued on August 27, 2025, Mr. Addai-Nimoh said the decision followed extensive consultations with his team and a careful evaluation of the party’s internal political environment.

He listed several reasons for stepping down: “inappropriate political timing, a top-down approach to internal contests, bias by party executives, and the unhealthy monetisation of our internal politics.”

The former presidential aspirant criticised the timing of the primary scheduled for January 31, 2026 and raised doubts about the fairness of the process. He claimed the party’s leadership showed a clear bias toward a preferred candidate, undermining the integrity of the race.

Mr. Addai-Nimoh also condemned what he called the excessive financial burden placed on aspirants, highlighting the GHS 4.6 million cost of participation as both unethical and exclusionary.

“These factors, I believe, undermine the foundations of our internal democratic culture and place unethical emphasis on money rather than competence and winnability,” he added.

Despite his decision to exit the race, Mr. Addai-Nimoh extended best wishes to the remaining contenders and reaffirmed his continued loyalty to both the NPP and the nation.
