Afenyo-Markin congratulates NPP flagbearer aspirants, calls for unity

Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has congratulated all five aspirants who have successfully filed their nominations to contest in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming presidential primaries.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, August 28, Afenyo-Markin described the move as a “significant step in deepening our internal democracy and strengthening the party’s traditions.”
“I extend my warm congratulations to all the five (5) Presidential Aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in Freedom) who have successfully filed and submitted their nomination forms,” he wrote.
The five confirmed aspirants are:
Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong
Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong
Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong
H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum
The NPP’s Presidential Elections Committee has scheduled the party’s internal primaries for Saturday, January 31, 2026, to elect a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
Looking ahead to the campaign period, Mr. Afenyo-Markin appealed for calm and maturity among the aspirants and their supporters.
“As we move into the next phase of the process, I urge all aspirants and their supporters to conduct their campaigns with decorum, unity, and mutual respect. Let us avoid divisive tendencies and remain focused on the bigger goal of building a stronger NPP and advancing our national development,” he said.
He concluded with a rallying call to party members: “Indeed, the ELEPHANT is a winning symbol!”
