Drop Bawumia to save NPP– Adomako Kissi tells delegates

Dr. Dickson Adomako Kissi, a former Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom and a campaign team member for Bryan Acheampong, has called on New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates to “drop” Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the party’s upcoming flagbearer contest, warning that retaining him could cost the party the 2028 general election.
Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Channel One TV on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, Dr. Adomako Kissi controversially likened the Vice President to the biblical Jonah, suggesting that Dr. Bawumia must be “thrown overboard” to prevent the NPP from sinking further.
“I didn’t really want to go there, but in the last primaries, he underperformed in Greater Accra, and in Greater Accra, we won only two in the presidency out of the 34. Greater Accra is not very responsive to him like they are responding to Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and that one is not me, it’s the euphoria I am accessing from behind, he said.
“It is not just about one individual. When it happened that Jonah had to be removed from the ship to save the ship, it happened, and it gets to a point that at some point in time, you need to remove any Jonah who is sinking the ship,” he explained.
He also cited the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) as an example, praising their strategic leadership changes.
“The party deficit requires that we make a radical change, and it is not about the individuals. Let me commend the NDC—when they realised they had to remove Haruna Iddrisu to win the Central Region, they did it. Haruna Iddrisu is a colossal figure. The NDC moved him from Parliament as a leader so that they could win the Central Region,” he said.
According to him, the NPP’s poor performance in the 2024 elections is a clear sign that change is necessary, and delegates should rally behind Bryan Acheampong for a stronger electoral showing.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is set to begin a nationwide campaign tour on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, as part of his effort to secure the party’s flagbearer position.
