Ablakwa commissions first-ever passport application centre in Upper East Region

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has inaugurated the Bolgatanga Passport Application Centre (PAC) in the Upper East Region, marking a major step toward decentralising passport services across Ghana.
The launch, held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, signifies the Ministry’s determination to make passport acquisition more accessible to citizens nationwide.
With the new centre, the Ministry now operates ten (10) PACs across Ghana’s sixteen regions, with plans underway to establish the remaining six before the end of the year.
Addressing attendees, Hon. Ablakwa urged citizens to avoid using middlemen in the passport application process, assuring that the Ministry has strengthened security protocols and enhanced its vetting procedures.

He highlighted that applicants can now track their passport applications online through the e-tracking system and receive their passports via Ghana Post at no extra cost.
“The Ministry remains committed to delivering transparent, efficient, and citizen-focused services,” he said, adding that all queries should be directed to the Information and Public Affairs Bureau ([email protected]) for assistance.
During the event, seven applicants received their passports directly from the Minister, symbolising the PAC’s operational readiness.
Regional Minister Hon. Donatus Akamugri Atanga praised the project as “a symbol of hope and responsiveness,” while Nabdam MP Hon. Mark Kurt Nawaane commended the government’s effort to ensure equitable regional development.
The ceremony was attended by regional authorities, members of the traditional council, religious leaders, and heads of security agencies, who all lauded the initiative as a milestone in public service accessibility and digital reform.
