Mason Remanded Over Alleged Robbery and Cutlass Attack on Farmer in Assin Fosu

A 40-year-old mason, Kofi Awuakye, has been remanded into police custody for one week by the Assin Fosu District Court over his alleged involvement in a violent robbery attack that left a farmer with multiple cutlass wounds.
Awuakye appeared before the court on charges of unlawful entry, unlawful possession and use of an offensive weapon, and causing harm.
The court, presided over by Abdul Majid Iliasu, granted a prosecution request to remand the accused to allow investigators to complete their work. He is expected to reappear before the court on June 18, 2026.
According to the prosecution, led by Matilda Osaah Buabeng, the complainant, Kwabena Atta, was asleep in his home at Assin Fosu during the early hours of October 29, 2025, when he was awakened by unusual noises.
Prosecutors alleged that Atta discovered the accused inside his room, searching through his belongings while armed with a knife. When the farmer raised an alarm, the suspect allegedly attacked him, inflicting multiple cutlass wounds on his shoulder, back and other parts of his body before fleeing the scene.
Residents reportedly responded to the distress call and attempted to apprehend the suspect, but he managed to escape.
The victim later received medical treatment and submitted an endorsed medical report to assist police investigations.
Police said efforts to locate the suspect continued for several months until June 3, 2026, when the complainant allegedly spotted him at the Adiembra Lorry Station in Assin Fosu. With assistance from members of the public, Awuakye was arrested and handed over to the police.
Although the accused denied involvement during interrogation, investigators said evidence gathered linked him to the alleged attack, leading to his prosecution.
The case has been adjourned to June 18, 2026, while investigations continue.
