Melcom confirms warehouse fire at Tema Free Zones, no casualties recorded
A massive fire consumed a storage facility operated by Melcom Limited at the Tema Free Zones Area on Saturday, July 4, triggering a coordinated emergency response that prevented the conflagration from claiming lives despite the scale of the structural conflagration.
The outbreak prompted swift mobilisation of firefighting apparatus.
Ghana National Fire Service personnel converged upon the burning warehouse and engaged the blaze with methodical suppression operations designed to contain the flames and prevent spread to adjacent commercial infrastructure.
The emergency response encompassed multiple institutional actors. Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation, the Ghana Police Service and additional emergency responders coordinated efforts at the scene to bring the incident under control and secure the perimeter.
Melcom disclosed in a statement issued Sunday, July 5, that no casualties or injuries attended the incident despite the severity of the conflagration.
The company expressed profound gratitude that employees, partners and surrounding communities escaped bodily harm.
“We are deeply thankful that there were no casualties or injuries resulting from the incident,” the retailer stated.
The company extended appreciation to firefighting personnel and emergency agencies for their professionalism and responsiveness in combating the blaze.
Their intervention proved critical to limiting expansion of the flames beyond the warehouse structure itself.
Melcom’s management has engaged in collaborative investigation with governmental authorities to establish the mechanism by which the fire ignited.
Simultaneously, the company is conducting internal assessments to quantify the destruction wrought upon facility infrastructure and stored merchandise.
“Our management team is collaborating with the relevant authorities as they assess the incident and establish its cause. We are also conducting an internal assessment of the damage and implementing the necessary measures to secure the facility,” the statement disclosed.
Despite the severity of the damage inflicted upon the warehouse, Melcom has committed to restoring operational capacity with expeditious measures designed to minimise disruption to its supply chains and customer service capabilities.
“Although the fire has significantly affected the warehouse, Melcom assured customers that it is working to restore operations as quickly as possible to minimise disruptions,” the statement noted, pledging sustained merchandise availability despite the logistical setback.
The company concluded its statement with expressions of gratitude directed toward employees, clientele, business associates and the broader public for demonstrations of concern and supportive messages received following the incident.
