Ghana captain Andre Ayew has been named in the French Ligue 1 team of the week after his brilliant brace that rescued a draw for his side Le Havre against Lorient.

Ayew, who recently concluded a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign with Ghana, showcased his goal-scoring prowess in the French league.

Introduced in the 70th minute with Le Havre trailing 2-1 to bottom-placed Lorient, Ayew made an immediate impact.

In the 85th minute, he headed in the equalizer, connecting with a Nabil Alioui cross to draw his side level.

Despite Lorient going ahead again with a Mohamed Bamba goal, Ayew had the last laugh. In dramatic fashion, he acrobatically scored with the last kick of the game, ensuring it ended 3-3.

The match came at a challenging time for Ayew, who faced criticism for Ghana’s disappointing AFCON performance.

Calls for his retirement from the national team gained momentum after the Black Stars failed to impress during the tournament.

Ayew’s crucial goals for Le Havre will likely boost his confidence as he aims to rebound from a difficult week.

With a career spanning over a decade, the Ghanaian captain has played for top clubs worldwide and will seek to continue making an impact on the pitch.
