England head coach Thomas Tuchel has warned Ghana to expect a highly motivated England side when the two nations meet in a pivotal 2026 FIFA World Cup Group L fixture on Tuesday.

The Three Lions began their campaign with an impressive 4-2 victory over Croatia, while Ghana edged Panama 1-0 courtesy of Caleb Yirenkyi’s late winner, setting up a top-of-the-table clash between the group’s two winning teams.

Despite England’s strong start, Tuchel believes Ghana remain one of the toughest opponents in the group and praised the Black Stars’ quality ahead of the contest.

“It’s bad news for Ghana because we will be very motivated,” the German coach said.

“We are playing in one of the most difficult groups, and Ghana is a traditional top football country with outstanding players. Ghana play with a lot of physicality, quality and speed. They don’t mind if they don’t have the ball.”

Tuchel’s comments underline the respect England have for the four-time African champions, who are seeking to continue their positive start under head coach Carlos Queiroz.

The fixture has attracted significant global attention, with both teams aiming to secure back-to-back victories and take a major step towards qualification for the knockout stage.

England currently lead Group L on goal difference after the opening round of matches, with Ghana level on three points following their victory over Panama.

A win for either side would put them in a commanding position to reach the last 16, making Tuesday’s encounter one of the standout matches of the group stage.
