Bagbin’s convoy involved in an accident, dispatch rider dies

The convoy of the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has been involved in an accident, leaving one of Parliament’s dispatch riders dead.

Confirming the incident, Director of Public Affairs at Parliament,  Kate Addo said the advanced team were traveling to the Upper West Region to prepare the grounds for the Speaker’s event which was scheduled to take place this weekend, when the unfortunate incident happened.

“The Speaker has a programme in Wa in the Upper West Region this weekend and so he is scheduled to leave tomorrow, and so as is the usual practice, an advanced team set off today to go and prepare the grounds for him. When the team got to Konongo, the rider had stopped a truck to enable the team to pass, and unfortunately a speeding vehicle came behind to hit him and his motorcycle caught fire and unfortunately we lost the rider.”

Madam Addo who was speaking on Joy News Today, Friday August 6, 2021, as monitored by Ghanaguardian.com described the late rider as “very experienced”, indicating that the Speaker was at the office when he was hit with the news and he “is sad and shocked about the incident.”

She disclosed that the late dispatch rider had been working with Parliament since 2009.
