Black Queens midfielder Freda Ayisi joins Watford FC Women
24th July 2025
Ghana women's national team midfielder Freda Ayisi has completed a move to English side Watford FC Women, signing ahead of the upcoming Women’s National League season.
Ayisi joins the Golden Girls after a prolific spell with National League outfit Hashtag United, where she scored seven goals in 16 appearances before an injury curtailed her campaign in January.
The 30-year-old brings a wealth of experience, having played for several English clubs including Arsenal, Birmingham City, Leicester City, London City Lionesses, Lewes, and Charlton Athletic.
She began her senior career at Arsenal in 2013 and was part of their 2014 Women’s FA Cup-winning squad. She also netted a goal in the UEFA Women's Champions League against FC Kairat.
Ayisi's time at Birmingham included an appearance in the 2017 FA Cup final at Wembley, while further stints at Leicester City, Lewes, and Charlton have added to her credentials across England’s women’s tiers.
Watford’s head coach, Damon Lathrope, described Ayisi’s signing as a statement of intent. He highlighted her ability to bring creativity and leadership to the midfield, and the team expects her experience to help guide younger players throughout the season.
Ayisi joins Watford as they prepare to begin their campaign against Lewes FC Women on August 17, 2025.
Brown-footed midfielder Ayisi’s arrival aligns with Watford’s ambition—as they seek to blend flair and experience to climb the Women’s National League table.
