Black Stars coach will be announced latest by Monday – Sports Minister
Ghana is expected to name a new head coach for the Black Stars within days, according to the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams.
The senior national team has been without a permanent coach since the departure of Otto Addo, who left his role following disappointing performances in recent friendlies against Austria and Germany.
Speaking to Channel One TV, Adams indicated that the recruitment process is in its final stages, with an announcement anticipated by the end of the weekend or early next week at the latest.
“If by this weekend we don’t announce the coach, then by Monday at the latest we should be able to present our new Black Stars coach,” he said.
The minister also expressed confidence in Ghana’s chances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the team has the quality to compete strongly on the global stage.
Several experienced names, including Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento and Fernando Santos, have been linked with the role, as the Ghana Football Association moves to stabilise the team ahead of the tournament.
The Black Stars are scheduled to regroup in May for preparatory matches, including a friendly against Mexico national football team. Ghana will begin their World Cup campaign on 17 June against Panama national football team, before facing England national football team and Croatia national football team in Group L.
After early exits in the 2014 and 2022 tournaments, Ghana will be aiming for a stronger showing as they return to football’s biggest stage.
