Black Stars head coach Otto Addo visits injured Tariq Lamptey in Italy

Ghana head coach Otto Addo has travelled to Italy to personally visit Tariq Lamptey, who is recovering from a serious ACL injury that has ruled him out of the Black Stars’ final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Central African Republic and Comoros.
The Fiorentina right-back, who joined the Serie A side this summer in a bid to reignite his career after injury setbacks in England, suffered the ligament tear shortly after the September international break. He has since undergone surgery and is expected to be sidelined for six to nine months, casting doubt over his availability for the World Cup should Ghana qualify.
Addo’s visit highlights his deep commitment to player welfare, reinforcing a culture of care within the national setup. The coach offered words of encouragement and wished Lamptey a speedy recovery, demonstrating that his concern for players extends well beyond matchday contributions.
“It’s not just about tactics and results — it’s about people,” one GFA source noted. “Otto’s visit shows that every player matters, even when they’re off the pitch.”
Ghana currently sits top of Group I with 19 points, needing just four more to secure a fifth World Cup appearance — a milestone that could still offer Lamptey a chance to return in time for the global stage.
