Ghana football legend Asamoah Gyan has been unveiled as the official ambassador for Ghana’s national teams and colts football, in a move aimed at strengthening support for the country’s football development.

The former Black Stars captain was introduced at a ceremony held at the Pelican Hotel in Accra on Wednesday evening, attended by senior football officials, former teammates and Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku.

Widely regarded as one of Ghana’s greatest footballers, Gyan is expected to use his influence and experience to promote the Black Stars and support youth football initiatives across the country.

Under his new role, the 39-year-old will spearhead fan engagement activities, promotional campaigns and advocacy programmes aimed at rallying national support ahead of upcoming international competitions, including tournaments in North America.

He will also represent the Ghana Football Association at official events and contribute to efforts focused on nurturing young football talent.

An emotional moment marked the unveiling ceremony when a documentary highlighting Gyan’s memorable goals for Ghana was played before guests, drawing loud applause from the audience.

Gyan remains Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals and represented the country at three FIFA World Cups in 2006, 2010 and 2014.

He famously scored Ghana’s first-ever FIFA World Cup goal in a victory against the Czech Republic at the 2006 tournament in Germany, cementing his place in the nation’s football history.
