Carlos Queiroz names black stars squad for World Cup preparations and Wales friendly

Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has named a 28-man Black Stars squad for the team’s World Cup preparation camp and upcoming international friendly against Wales national football team in Cardiff.

The squad, announced ahead of the June 2 encounter, reflects a balanced mix of experience and emerging talent as Ghana intensifies preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The Black Stars assembled in Cardiff on Monday, 25 May, and have begun training at Dragon Park as Queiroz continues to shape his squad ahead of the tournament.

Among the notable inclusions is defender Baba Abdul Rahman, who returns to the national team for the first time since September 2023 following an impressive campaign with Greek side PAOK.

Forward Ernest Nuamah also makes his comeback after spending several months on the sidelines with an ACL injury.

Defender Abdul Mumin, midfielder Augustine Boakye and defender Alidu Seidu have also returned to the squad as Ghana seek to strengthen depth across the pitch.

The squad includes five goalkeepers, nine defenders, seven midfielders and seven forwards, with the technical team aiming to assess both form and fitness ahead of the World Cup campaign.

Ajax youngster Paul Reverson has been handed an opportunity to impress, underlining Ghana’s focus on building for the future alongside immediate tournament ambitions.

Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama national football team in Toronto before facing England national football team in Boston and Croatia national football team in Philadelphia.
