Covenant Stars win fifth edition of Tariq Lamptey U16 tournament

At the fifth edition of the annual Tariq Lamptey U16 Tournament under the auspices of the Tariq Lamptey Foundation, Dansoman based Covenant Stars emerged champions of the tournament which was organized by Black Stars and Brighton and Hove Albion player, Tariq Lamptey. The Dansoman based football club defeated Take Hearts in the grand final of the tournament at the Prisons Astroturf, SCC, Roman Ridge.

The event begun at 8AM on Thursday, June 5 2025, with four teams namely; Take Hearts, Sporting Club Accra, Covenant Stars and Accra Young Wise participating

The eventual champions, Covenant Stars received a sum of 6,000 GHS, a trophy, footballs, boots, and drinks as winners’ prize, whereas second-placed team, Take Hearts, received a prize of 4,000 GHS, drinks and other ancilliary prizes as well for participating.

Third-placed team Sporting Club Accra, were also rewarded with 2,000 GHS for  their participation, along side fourth-placed team, Accra Young Wise  who were also awarded the same amount of money.
 The tournament as instigated by the Brighton star aims to nurture young talents through football and education, with the huge vision of propelling them to the highest possible platform to showcase their talents.

Beneficiaries of the 2025 edition of the tournament were full of immense praise as the tournament has had enormous impact on the development young athletes:

Paul Dofoe Danlawyer, head coach of Sporting Club, commended Lamptey’s initiative: “We are grateful to Tariq for unearthing talents. This platform helps young players embrace football globally and serves as a springboard for bigger opportunities.”

Covenant Stars’ head coach, Daniel Ansah, urged other footballers to follow Lamptey’s  steps and example asserting that the initiative the footballer has begun will help other underprivileged talents “He’s doing well. Few big stars think about underprivileged players, so I commend him.”

Susan Akomeah, a Tariq Lamptey Foundation member and Lamptey’s grandmother, encouraged successful Ghanaian players, especially in the diaspora, to support young talents: “This tournament motivates young players. It makes Tariq happy to see them give their best. I urge others to help push these talents forward.”

The Tariq Lamptey Foundation is committed to continue identifying and nurturing Ghana’s finest young talents as it continues to widen its scope to reaching other parts of the country to make the country a celebrated talent hub.
