Daddy Lumba’s family officially notifies government of his passing

The family of late highlife legend, Charles Kojo Fosu, widely known as Daddy Lumba, has paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, to officially inform the government of the musician’s passing.
The meeting, held on Monday, August 25, 2025, is in line with traditional protocols observed when a prominent national figure dies. The visit served to formally communicate the loss and initiate discussions regarding funeral arrangements and potential state involvement in honouring the music icon.
Daddy Lumba passed away on July 26, 2025, at The Bank Hospital in Cantonments, Accra, a loss that has sent waves of grief throughout Ghana and beyond. Since news of his death broke, tributes have poured in from musicians, political leaders, fans, and cultural institutions, all paying homage to his immense contributions to Ghanaian music.
Born on September 29, 1964, Daddy Lumba rose to prominence in the 1980s and became a defining figure in the highlife genre. Over a career spanning more than three decades, he released over 30 albums and produced timeless classics such as Aben Wo Ha, Theresa, Yentie Obiaa, and Playboy. His music was celebrated for its lyrical depth, emotional resonance, and cultural commentary.
The family has announced that the one-week observance will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, in Accra. His final funeral rites are scheduled to take place in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region, at a later date.
