Nigerian business magnate Aliko Dangote has disclosed that he sold his luxury homes in the United States and the United Kingdom to allow him concentrate fully on expanding his businesses in Nigeria.

In a video shared on X on Sunday, July 12, 2026, the founder of the Dangote Group said the decision was part of his commitment to staying in Nigeria and dedicating his time and resources to building his industrial empire.

Dangote explained that after deciding to venture deeper into the industrial sector, he chose to dispose of his overseas properties so he could focus entirely on his investments at home.

“When I decided to go into industry, I sold all my properties in the USA. I had two houses; a big mansion in the USA and UK. I sold them all because I really wanted to sit in Nigeria and concentrate,” he said.

The billionaire businessman said he now maintains a simple lifestyle, choosing to stay in hotels whenever he travels rather than owning and maintaining several properties abroad.

“My life is very simple. Wherever I go I use hotels and I pay, and nobody will call me and ask me for home maintenance,” he added.

Dangote, who is widely recognised as Africa’s richest man, has built a vast business empire with interests in sectors including cement, sugar, salt, fertiliser and petroleum refining.

His investments, particularly in manufacturing, have contributed significantly to Nigeria’s industrial development and efforts to reduce dependence on imported goods.
