Dreams FC coach Karim Zito confirms veteran forward John Antwi’s potential departure amid multiple offers

Dreams FC head coach Karim Zito has confirmed that veteran forward John Antwi is likely to leave the club ahead of the 2024/25 football season, following a series of offers that have come his way.
Antwi, who played a pivotal role in Dreams FC’s historic run to the semifinals of the CAF Confederation Cup last season, is poised for a move as the club prepares for the new campaign.
The 32-year-old striker scored six goals in 12 appearances, contributing significantly to Dreams FC’s remarkable performance in the competition.
In a recent interview with ace broadcaster Professor George Kuntu Blankson on Takoradi-based Skyy Power 93.5 FM, Zito discussed his intentions for the upcoming season and the status of key players, including Antwi.
“John Antwi had a lot of offers, and I seriously wanted him to leave. I even tried some negotiations for him,” Zito revealed, indicating his openness to the striker’s potential departure.
Despite Dreams FC’s commendable performance in the CAF Confederation Cup, which included a hard-fought goalless draw in Cairo and a 3-0 loss to Egyptian giants Zamalek in Kumasi, several standout players, including Antwi, have attracted interest from other clubs during the ongoing transfer window.
Zito emphasized the importance of strategic planning and analysis in building a competitive team for the future. “I am seriously preparing for the new season.
As it stands, John Antwi, Abdul Aziz Issah, Egyir, Abdul Jalilu, McCarthy Ofori, and Agyenim Boateng aren’t part of my plans,” he stated.
However, Zito also expressed a pragmatic approach regarding Antwi’s situation, adding, “If he gets a new club, that is ok, but if not, we are still ok with him. Every good coach must analyze his team at the end of the season and plan for the future.”
Dreams FC’s management is working diligently to strengthen the squad for the upcoming season, aiming to build on their recent success and maintain their competitive edge as they enter the new campaign.
