Election 2016: Let’s vote with thumbs not fist – PPP
The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has called on the electorate to eschew bloodshed going into the 2016 elections.
According to the Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom-led party, election is about choices hence no one must lose a life, despite any differences.
“Let’s go to vote with a thumb and not a fist or any other weapon,” the vice presidential candidate of the party Brigitte Dzogbenuku stated during the signing of a Peace Accord ahead of the December 7 polls in Accra, Thursday.
She said nothing should divide Ghanaians, hoping Ghana will scale through the process peacefully to maintain its reputation as the beacon of hope in West Africa.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the National Peace Council, Most. Reverend Emmanuel Asante, has counselled the seven presidential candidates to ensure that another peace accord is not signed ahead of the next elections in 2020.
According to Rev. Asante, the country must be matured enough by the next election to keep its peace with open commitments from candidates without going through the process of asking candidates to commit to peaceful elections.
The seven candidates are President John Mahama of the NDC, NPP’s Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, NDP’s Nana Konadu, PNC’s Edward Mahama, PPP’s Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, CPP’s Ivor Kobina Greenstreet and Independent candidate Jacob Osei Yeboah.
Rev. Asante also commended the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei II for championing the first peace accord signed in Kumasi ahead of the 2012 elections.
He also called on Ghanaians to maintain the relative peace the country has enjoyed over the years before, during and after the December 7 polls.
Present at the meeting were former President Jerry John Rawlings, EC chairman Charlotte Osei, former South African President Thabo Mbeki and representatives of the various election monitoring bodies.
