First Lady attends OAFLA

Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo is in Ethiopia Addis Ababa for 20th Ordinary General Assembly of the Organisation of African First Ladies (OAFLA).

The meeting was dubbed “Transforming Africa through Priortising Children, Adolescents and Mothers in the Fight against HIV”

The convention is aimed at endorsing a communique that presses on the African countries to increase efforts in fighting HIV and AIDS in Africa at large.

In  the meeting, the First Ladies of the African nations have championed a campaign called “Free to Shine” to eradicate AIDS among children by the year 2030.

The communique indicated that children are under high risk of contacting the virus than any group in a society.

The First Ladies have stated that, about 50% of such incidents have children with HIV die by the age of two which is of great concern to them.

They have further agreed that the the provision of prevention method , diagnosis and the treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, especially targeting women of child bearing age is very crucial to eradicating AIDS.

The OAFLA have called on stake holders of the AU member states, religious organisations, Ministries of Health, Finance, Social Affairs and Government Leaders, Traditional Leaders as well as Civil Society Organisations and Media Organisations to join forces and support the actions that can be taken to end “childhood HIV and AIDS”
