GFA President Kurt Okraku engages CEO of YEA, Malik Basintale

The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, led a delegation from the GFA Executive Council to engage the Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, in Accra to explore strategic initiatives aimed at youth empowerment through football.
The high-level meeting, held at the YEA headquarters, focused on strengthening the existing collaboration between the two institutions, with a special emphasis on youth development, financial support for football clubs—especially women’s teams—and creating sustainable employment through football.
In his remarks, President Simeon-Okraku highlighted the longstanding partnership between the GFA and the YEA, recalling a defining moment during the COVID-19 pandemic when YEA stepped in with financial support for women’s football in Ghana.
“The intervention from YEA during the pandemic was a historic and transformative moment for our female footballers. For the first time, players in the women’s league received monthly stipends, which brought much-needed relief and dignity to their careers,” he said.
The meeting also explored future collaborations aimed at leveraging football as a powerful tool for youth development, with both institutions reaffirming their shared commitment to empowering young Ghanaians through structured opportunities in the sports sector.
The engagement marks another step forward in the GFA’s agenda to build stronger institutions around football while promoting national development goals.
