Ghana Armed Forces to recruit on merit only, not money– Omane Boamah

The Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring a transparent and merit-based recruitment process into the Ghana Armed Forces, free from political interference or financial inducement.
Speaking during a meeting with the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Interior at his office in Accra, Dr. Boamah stressed that the integrity of the armed forces must be protected through fair and credible enlistment procedures.
“I emphasised that enlistment and recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces will be strictly merit-based and not for sale. We are committed to transparency and fairness in our recruitment process,” he posted on his official Facebook page on Thursday, 3rd July.
The meeting, chaired by James Agalga, focused on broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s national security and address challenges facing the defence sector.
Dr. Boamah also briefed the committee on the Ministry’s ongoing initiatives, including the need for modern platforms and equipment to help the armed forces respond effectively to emerging threats, especially in volatile regions.
Members of the Committee commended the Ministry’s direction and pledged continued support from Parliament to ensure national security objectives are met.
“The committee expressed their support for the Ministry’s work and assured us of Parliament’s commitment to advocating and providing the necessary support towards maintaining national security,” Dr Boamah added.
He concluded with a call for unity and cooperation, saying, “Together, we can work towards a safer and more secure Ghana.”
