Ghanaian defender Joseph Aidoo has been named in the 2018 UEFA Europa League breakthrough team of the year.

UEFA.com picked out a team of young players who broke  through in the UEFA Europa League this calendar year and Aidoo made the mark.

In order to narrow the field, they set the following criteria: i) aged 24 or under; ii) UEFA Europa League debut in 2018 or only limited prior experience and made a major leap this year.

The Ghanaian arrived at Genk with a reputation as the best defender in Sweden in 2017 and has already established himself among the finest in Belgium.

Aidoo’s inclusion comes as no fluke after recording 20 appearances and a goal for KRC Genk this season with impressive performances in the Europa League.
