England head coach Thomas Tuchel has praised Ghana’s quality ahead of the highly anticipated FIFA World Cup Group L clash, describing the Black Stars as one of the toughest opponents his side will face in the tournament.

Both teams head into Monday’s encounter in Boston on the back of winning starts to their 2026 World Cup campaigns. England produced an entertaining 4-2 victory over Croatia, while Ghana secured a hard-fought 1-0 win against Panama courtesy of Caleb Yirenkyi’s decisive strike.

Speaking before the match, Tuchel acknowledged Ghana’s rich football tradition and highlighted the team’s physicality, pace and tactical discipline.

“We are playing in one of the most difficult groups, and Ghana is a traditional top football country with outstanding players,” Tuchel said.

“They play with a lot of physicality, quality and speed. They don’t mind if they don’t have the ball.”

Despite his admiration for Carlos Quieroz side, the former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager insisted England would be fully prepared for the challenge.

“It’s bad news for Ghana because we will be very motivated,” he added.

The fixture is expected to be one of the standout matches of the group stage, with both nations aiming to take a major step towards qualification for the knockout rounds.

England currently lead Group L on goal difference after the opening round of matches, with Ghana level on three points following their victory over Panama.

A win for either side would significantly boost their hopes of reaching the last 16, adding further significance to what promises to be an intense and closely contested encounter.
