Ghana School of Law calls off Monday’s exams as flooding forces rescheduling

The Ghana School of Law has shifted two examinations to a new date after persistent downpours rendered travel hazardous and flooded swathes of the capital, prioritising the safety of its students over examination schedules.
The Alternative Dispute Resolution and Ghana Legal System tests, which were initially set for Monday, June 29, have been moved to Tuesday, June 30, commencing at midday.
The examination halls themselves remain unchanged, but the postponement gives weather conditions time to improve and allows students safe passage to the testing venues.
Registrar Mrs. Juliet Mavis Adu-Adjei formalised the decision following consultation with the Chair of the Independent Examinations Committee.
The school’s statement made clear that no student would face academic consequences for missing an examination rendered inaccessible by meteorological conditions beyond anyone’s control.
“Your safety is our highest priority. No student should risk their life or personal safety by attempting to travel through heavy rain or floodwaters to the Examination Centre,” the institution declared.
The postponement followed an earlier delay announced on the morning of June 29 itself, when management had evaluated conditions and concluded that holding examinations while transport networks remained submerged would be irresponsible.
At that juncture, the school had pledged that no exams would proceed until it was genuinely safe for students to make their way through the city.
The school emphasised that rescheduling represented a commitment to fairness — students unable to reach examination centres through no fault of their own would not find themselves disadvantaged in their academic standing or professional progression.
Management counselled students to maintain vigilance for further updates by monitoring email inboxes, SMS notifications, WhatsApp channels and the institution’s web and social media presence.
The announcement coincides with a broader crisis affecting Accra, where overnight precipitation has triggered flooding across multiple neighbourhoods, disrupted vehicular movement and prompted government authorities to issue directives urging citizens to shelter indoors during the dangerous weather event.
