A Ghanaian pilgrim participating in this year’s Hajj in Saudi Arabia has died while carrying out one of the sacred rites of the pilgrimage in Mecca.

The deceased, identified as Musah Sidi, was said to have collapsed during Tawaf — the ritual where pilgrims walk around the Holy Kaaba at the Grand Mosque.

The incident was confirmed by the Pilgrims Affairs Office of Ghana in an official statement released on May 22, 2026.

Officials explained that the 53-year-old became unwell while performing the religious exercise and passed away shortly afterwards despite efforts to assist him.

Authorities have since informed his family, while arrangements are being made for Islamic funeral prayers and burial in accordance with Muslim traditions.

The Pilgrims Affairs Office described the death as spiritually significant, noting that many Muslims consider passing away during pilgrimage and worship as a sign of divine favour and honour.

The office also extended sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace and forgiveness for the late pilgrim.
