GoldBod to establish 600-Tonne Gold refinery in Ghana by 2027

The Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Sammy Gyamfi, has announced plans to establish one of the world’s largest gold refineries in Ghana as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s position in the global gold value chain.
According to Mr. Gyamfi, GoldBod is in the final stages of concluding an agreement that will pave the way for the construction of the refinery, which is expected to have a processing capacity of 600 tonnes.
Speaking during a meeting with members of the National House of Chiefs in the Ashanti Region on Friday, May 29, he disclosed that construction of the facility is scheduled to begin later this year, with completion targeted for 2027.
He explained that the refinery forms a key component of the government’s strategy to transform Ghana into a leading gold refining hub in Africa.
Mr. Gyamfi stated that the refinery will be capable of processing all the gold produced in Ghana while also providing refining services for neighbouring countries, including Burkina Faso and Togo.
“We are in the process of signing a new agreement that will lead to the establishment of one of the biggest gold refineries in the world right here in Ghana,” he said.
He added that the project would significantly enhance value addition within the gold sector and strengthen Ghana’s role in the regional gold industry.
“We will cut sod for the project this year and hope to complete it by next year. The refinery will have a capacity of 600 tonnes and will be able to refine all the gold produced in Ghana, as well as gold from Burkina Faso, Togo and other countries. The goal is to make Ghana a major hub for gold refining,” he noted.
