Guinea U23 coach Morlaye Cisse lauds players’ efforts as team qualifies for AFCON semi-finals

Morlaye Cisse, the head coach of the Guinea U23 team, has commended his players for their hard work and determination, which has led to their qualification for the semi-finals of the TotalEnergies CAF U23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.
Guinea secured their spot in the knockout stage after a remarkable comeback to secure a 1-1 draw against Ghana in a Group A match held at the Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier on Friday night.
Speaking after the game, Cisse expressed his admiration for his players’ efforts, stating that he never doubted their capabilities, even after conceding a goal in the first half.
“I never doubted the capabilities of my players, even after we conceded a goal in the first half,” said Cisse.
“The players have shown tremendous fighting spirit and have proven, since the start of the tournament, that they have the desire to win,” added Cisse.
He praised their fighting spirit and desire to win, which they have demonstrated throughout the tournament.
Cisse emphasized the importance of continuing to work hard, as Guinea now stands just one step away from qualifying for the Paris Olympic Games.
Despite some costly mistakes made by the goalkeeper in the group matches, Cisse mentioned that he still believes in him and sees it as part of the learning process.
He highlighted the promising future of Guinean football and noted that this group of players is under no pressure and is eager to learn and develop.
Looking ahead, Guinea will face the top team from Group B in the semi-final stage on July 4th, which will take place in Tangier.
The team and coaching staff will be focused on preparing for the upcoming challenge as they aim to continue their impressive run in the tournament.
