I won’t return to public service- former GTA boss

Former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Akwasi Agyeman, says he has no intention of returning to the Authority, even if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regains power, insisting that his tenure has ended and his focus has shifted entirely to new commitments outside public service.

“I’m not coming back to the GTA: I have served my term eight years, and I believe it is time for others to also gain the experience,” he said in an interview with George Quaye on Joy Prime’s PrimeTime.

He stressed that his decision is final and unrelated to the political prospects of any party.

Mr. Agyeman revealed that he is currently occupied with major projects that require his full attention, including the Centre for Tourism, Hospitality and Aviation, which he launched last year, as well as other engagements abroad.

Reflecting on his service, the former CEO said he has closed the chapter on public-sector leadership.

“I think it’s time for some other people to also experience and contribute,” he said, adding that he is confident the industry will continue to grow under those who come after him.

He added that the Ghana Tourism Authority and the broader tourism industry stand to benefit from new leadership and fresh ideas.

“I think it’s time for some other people to also experience and contribute,” he said, expressing confidence that the sector will continue to grow under future leaders.
