Mahama to leads Ghana’s first national day of prayer today

President John Dramani Mahama is set to lead the nation in the first-ever National Day of Prayer today, July 1, marking the launch of a new initiative aimed at fostering unity, spiritual renewal, and hope as Ghana navigates current social and economic challenges.
The event, which is expected to draw participation from across religious, political, and civic spheres, will feature interfaith prayers centered on peace, economic recovery, national unity, and moral transformation.
A Christian interdenominational service will be held at 8:00 a.m. at the forecourt of the State House in Accra, while the Islamic prayer session will take place at noon at the National Mosque.
Two of the country’s most respected religious leaders; His Eminence Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson and the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu will lead the ceremonies, offering prayers and reflections on national healing and cohesion.
According to the organisers, all arrangements have been finalised and expressed confidence that the event will inspire a deeper sense of spiritual accountability and collective responsibility among Ghanaians.
The National Day of Prayer is expected to become an annual fixture on Ghana’s calendar, providing a platform for citizens of all faiths to unite in seeking divine guidance for the nation’s future.
