Mahama’s administration worsening galamsey crisis- Miracles Aboagye

Miracles Aboagye, an aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has sharply criticised the Mahama administration for its failure to curb the escalating illegal mining (galamsey) crisis in Ghana.
Appearing on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, August 16, he argued that despite multiple promises from the government, the environmental destruction caused by illegal mining has only worsened under their watch.
He pointed to the devastating effects on water bodies and farmlands, which he said are bearing the brunt of the ongoing devastation.
“Galamsey has escalated under the Mahama administration, and that is a reality we cannot deny,” he stressed.
Mr. Aboagye also slammed the administration for its inconsistent and politically motivated approach to enforcement, claiming that weak law enforcement has emboldened illegal miners and diminished public trust in the government’s commitment.
He called for stronger political will and decisive leadership to address the galamsey menace, warning that without serious action, the environmental damage could become irreversible.
“The country deserves action, not rhetoric. Without strong and decisive leadership, the damage being caused by galamsey will be irreversible,” he cautioned.
