Mallam Atta market fire: 12 structures destroyed, no casualties recorded

Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) on Wednesday night swiftly brought a fire outbreak at the Mallam Atta Market in Accra under control, preventing what could have escalated into a major catastrophe.
In a statement, the GNFS said it received the distress call at 10:46 p.m., and the first response team from the National Headquarters, led by ADO I Ahoni, arrived on site at 11:02 p.m. Reinforcement teams from the Circle and Flagstaff House fire stations joined the operation at 11:13 p.m. and 11:29 p.m., respectively.
The coordinated effort saw the blaze contained by 12:01 a.m. and fully extinguished at 12:24 a.m.
The fire destroyed 12 wooden structures, six used as shops and six as residential units while a 40-foot container serving as a cold store was partially affected.
However, the GNFS said its timely intervention saved several adjoining structures from being consumed by the flames.
No injuries or fatalities were recorded.
Investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the fire.
