MP–DCE rivalries undermining development in Ashanti Region– Regional Minister warns

Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has raised concerns over rising tensions between Members of Parliament (MPs) and District Chief Executives (DCEs), warning that their rivalry is hindering development across the region.
Addressing journalists in Kumasi on Monday, October 6, 2025, Dr. Amoakohene described the strained relations as counterproductive, noting that they are slowing down key projects and disrupting coordination at the district level.
“The rivalry and the fact that they are not on very good terms will hinder the approval of the District Assemblies Common Fund, which is meant for the MPs, and some use that as a way to settle scores,” he said.
The Minister added that poor communication and lack of collaboration between MPs and DCEs in some districts have led to confusion and delays in implementing government programmes.
“In some of the districts, because they may not understand each other, they decide or pretend not to be aware of initiatives coming from the assemblies. This is not helpful. For local governance to work effectively, we need to carry along all stakeholders,” he added.
Dr. Amoakohene urged both parties to set aside personal differences and prioritise cooperation to ensure effective governance and timely execution of development projects.
