MTN’s $2m sponsorship solves GFA’s ‘biggest challenge’ – Kurt Okraku

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku asserts that MTN Ghana’s new $2 million sponsorship has addressed the football association’s most pressing challenge.

The telecommunications giant has committed the sum over two years to become headline sponsor for four national teams — the Black Stars, Black Queens, Black Satellites (U20) and Black Starlets (U17).

The agreement, signed on Thursday at MTN Ghana’s Head Office in Accra, replaces the previous $2 million deal that covered only the senior men’s team ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The new partnership runs until 2027.

“This investment by MTN would ensure that the Black Queens, Satellites and Starlets have the best preparation for major championships,” Okraku said.

“The biggest challenge of the association has been solved by MTN. You need to occupy this seat to understand the problems we face in developing talents like the Starlets into the next John Paintsil or Fatau Dauda. It’s not easy.”

The Black Stars currently lead Group I in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, while the Black Queens recently secured bronze at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
