The Director-General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Professor Amin Alhassan, has strongly denied allegations of mismanagement and illegitimacy leveled against him by some unionised staff, describing the claims as false and misleading.

Responding to accusations that his tenure has expired and that he is overseeing a failing broadcaster, Prof. Alhassan insisted that operations at GBC remain stable and functional.

“Everything they have told you is false. If you visit GBC, you will realise that work is going on normally. The number of union executives making these claims does not even represent the entire membership; it is just a fraction,” he stated.

He encouraged journalists and the public to visit the premises and see the situation for themselves, maintaining that staff are on duty and programming is running as scheduled.

Addressing concerns about his salary and contract status, Prof. Alhassan explained that delays in financial clearance from the Ministry of Finance are common for heads of state institutions and not unique to his role.

“If a Director-General is appointed, it takes time for the Ministry of Finance to issue financial clearance. I can assure you that the Ministry has already issued clearance for the activation of my salary. Every CEO goes through this, so there is nothing unusual about my situation,” he explained.

He further noted that his appointment falls under the authority of the National Media Commission (NMC), and therefore any issues regarding the legitimacy of his position should be directed to the Commission.

His remarks come in the wake of a statement by a section of GBC’s unionised staff, who declared him persona non grata and accused him of financial impropriety, neglecting staff welfare, and overseeing the decline of the state broadcaster.
