NPA rolls out 24-hour economy pilot in downstream petroleum sector

The National Petroleum Authority has launched the pilot phase of the government’s 24-Hour Economy Programme within Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector to boost productivity, improve service delivery, and support economic growth.
The initiative is part of the wider economic transformation agenda of President John Dramani Mahama aimed at increasing efficiency across critical sectors of the economy.
Speaking at the launch in Accra on Tuesday, NPA Chief Executive Officer Godwin Tameklo said the programme is expected to enhance the petroleum supply chain, improve customer service delivery, stimulate economic activity, and create jobs within the downstream petroleum industry.
He explained that the pilot phase will cover selected facilities in four regions — Greater Accra, Ashanti, Western and Northern regions.
Under the initiative, 268 fuel stations, eight petroleum depots, and two refineries — Tema Oil Refinery and Sentuo Oil Refinery — will operate under the new 24-hour framework.
According to the NPA, the phased implementation is designed to help authorities assess operational systems, fine-tune implementation strategies, and ensure that the transition to round-the-clock operations remains efficient, safe, and sustainable.
The Authority noted that the initiative marks a significant step towards modernising Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector while promoting continuous economic activity nationwide.
