A woman lost her life in a tragic accident at the Bortianor bus stop on the Mallam-Kasoa highway on Friday, June 20.

The victim was attempting to cross the road when she was struck by a long vehicle with registration number WR 1475-13. Eyewitnesses say the truck veered off the main road in an effort to avoid colliding with other vehicles that had stopped to allow pedestrians to cross.

In the process, the truck ran over the woman, who was standing on the median.

An eyewitness, identified as Lawrence, blamed poor visibility due to non-functioning streetlights along the stretch from Mallam Junction to Kasoa.

“The woman didn’t see because there is no streetlight on this road. From Mallam Junction to Kasoa, the streetlights are just like white elephants—they’re not working anymore,” he told Citi News.
